Machine Polishing
Paint correction, paint enhancement, machine polishing, detailing, mopping….
There are many terms used for this, but what are they and what do they all mean? Ultimately these terms refer to paint correction of your vehicle.
At Premier Shine Andover, we tend to use the term machine polishing. I feel this is easier to understand and tends to be used widely in the UK.
The term detailing came from America and simply means, to go over any part of the vehicle in ‘detail’. It’s very loosely used and often confused!
What is involved in machine polishing my vehicle?
Machine polishing is a superior and far more in-depth process than polishing via hand. A machine polish can achieve a multitude of things, including:
Removal of, or reduce swirls & scratches on the paintwork
Enhancing the colour and clarity of the paint, take a dull and tired car and transform it into a showroom (or better) worthy vehicle!
How long does it take?
There are many factors to consider before getting started. Usually an assessment is made to determine.
Is it a hard or soft paint?
What level of polishing will it need?
What pad and polish combo will it need?
What product is best for the vehicle?
What type of machine polisher? Rotary machine polisher, a dual action machine polisher? Forced rotation?
This can be mind boggling and if not done correctly, can inflict more damage onto your vehicle. it really is worth getting someone in who know’s what they are doing!
How do you pick the right person for the job?
Cheap is also not best. I’ve seen and heard so many horror stories of untrained and unskilled individuals going gung ho. On paintwork.
Always speak to the person first and get them to show you some examples displaying the before and after photos of their work.
